Sign language recognition is no longer a distant concept. The technology is here, and it is ready for the world. The real question is: who shapes it, and how does it reach people?
At GoSign.AI, our mission is to ensure Deaf communities are at the center of this shift. We want people to experience sign recognition directly, not as something hidden in the background, and not as a tool locked behind corporate walls. We build the future together by inviting signers to contribute data, we make recognition approachable through playful games where you can sign, score, and level up, and we open creative doors by letting you interact with AI in expressive, visual ways.
These pillars are more than product features. They represent a different path, one where Deaf people guide what this technology looks like, instead of watching hearing-led industries decide for us.
A Journey in Three Iterations
GoSign.AI launched almost three years ago with a vision to bring sign language recognition (SLR) to communities worldwide. Each iteration of our app reflects lessons from the people who use it:
October 2023 – Iteration 1: Our first app leaned on ChatGPT’s API to test how AI could interact with Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing users.
March 2024 – Iteration 2: We merged avatar technology into the user experience and introduced leaderboards with the Sign That game, beginning our own dataset-building journey.
September 2025 – Iteration 3 (Today): For the first time, the GoSign app integrates multiple SLR models, including one trained from the datasets built by our community over the past three years, and another powered by our partner Sign-Speak’s latest model, now live in the app’s AI Tools section.
What you see in V2.0 from the redesigned onboarding to the streak system to the new games, is only possible because of what our users taught us.
What's New in 2.0
This is the biggest update since our launch, a completely refreshed experience for both new and returning users:
Points, streaks, and badges: Reward consistency and keep signers motivated.
Expanded leaderboards: Public profiles now include avatars, bios, badges, and achievements.
New games powered by SLR:
Sign Blaster – pop falling bubbles by signing letters.
Signing Hero – rhythm-based fingerspelling challenge.
Bridge of Hands – puzzle play through letter-by-letter signing.
Creative AI tools:
Sign-to-Image – sign a word or phrase and generate instant visuals.
AI Chatbot with SLR – interact directly with AI through your hands.
Improved onboarding & UI updates: A smoother experience for new players.
This update makes SLR something you can experience today: natural, engaging, and rewarding.
Why GoSign Exists: Data Freedom vs Data Silos

Too often, companies in this space build behind data silos. They collect valuable sign language datasets, treat them as private intellectual property, and wall them off from researchers and communities. Investors see these datasets as assets to protect, creating monopolies and inflating costs. That approach slows progress, raises barriers, and keeps control out of Deaf hands.
GoSign was created as the opposite. We believe in data freedom.
Every video clip in our app is contributed with consent, anonymized, and governed by GDPR.
Users always have the right to delete their data.
Data is made free to academics so research can move faster.
Commercial licensing sustains GoSign and funds continued development.
This model means competition isn’t about who owns the most data. It’s about who builds the best tools, the best experiences, and the most value for the community.Â
GoSign App V2.0 is proof of this philosophy. It exists because thousands of signers contributed to a shared engine, and because we chose collaboration over control.
Building the Future Together

Already, GoSign users have contributed 500,000+ signs across 20+ languages, creating one of the most diverse Deaf-managed datasets in the world. These contributions don’t just power our games and tools, they shape the entire field of sign recognition.
We know the real breakthroughs will come not from closed doors, but from community collaboration. By welcoming players into this process, we’re ensuring Deaf people drive the evolution of SLR, instead of waiting for hearing industries to decide what’s possible.
